It's Aquathon Season

Well the weather can't seem to make up its mind whether it is going to be cold or warm this spring. One thing for sure is that the water in all the swimming holes is still pretty cold.

We decided last weekend to take a dip in one of the open water swim spots. I was glad to be getting the wetsuit out and washed and putting it on. Well the water was pretty cold. Probably about 55 or less. It took several minutes of moving around in the water and getting used to it before I could put my face in. But after about 10 minutes I could go. Swam about 400 yards or so and then got out. I really just needed to get in the water because last Thursday was the first Aquathon of the season. I really like these events and will continue to do them as long as I can. They are a blast. 1000M open water swim followed by a 5K. The water was 58 and since I had just swam in cold water a few days prior, it really didn't bother me. I just made sure to spend some time in the water prior to the starting horn. Once the horn sounded and we started going, I was pretty stoked. It was a blast as always.

Last year I got cold on the first one and actually got out of the water and quit. No quit this year. I swam pretty straight for a change and when I got to the end and stood up, Jenny was right there. I felt good. Got out and got on the run. My goal for the swim/run combo is always an hour. Last year I had one that I went 59:37. This year I went 1:00:14. I had my best 5K of the 4 events I have done between last year and this year. My swim was only a minute off my best swim. So even though I finished last male and 3rd from the last overall, I was pleased. Always a fun and well ran event and I am looking forward to the one next month.

Training is banging along. I can't believe I am running a marathon next weekend. But I am. And summer finally decided to show up. 90 tomorrow and the humidity is rising.

But everything seems to be rolling along. I feel pretty good physically and I am in a good place mentally.

Half Ironman in 3 weeks. That will be a good test.
